for our administration, faculty and additional staff to have an active and faithful walk with Christ, to have a true love for teaching children, to be committed to the classical model of education, and to have a love of learning and a passion and skill for their subjects.
The Principal is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school. He is responsible for ensuring the classical mission and high academic standards of the school through oversight, chairing the Curriculum Committee, research and other methods. He works closely with teachers in monitoring the curriculum implementation in the classroom and encouraging continuous teacher education and improvement. He is responsible for mentoring the shepherding of the students' interaction with parents on student issues.
In addition to his duties as Principal, Mr. Woernle is the Boys Soccer Coach.
Eric is now in his third year as Principal/Head of School, but is no stranger to GCA, having taught Logic, Latin, and Omnibus (Middle Ages through the Reformation) the first two years of GCA (2004 - 2006). In addition, he taught fifth grade at Providence Center for Classical Studies. His wife, Tara, taught second and third grades at GCA during those years.
Eric earned a B.A. in History, a M.A. in Christianity and Classical Studies, and a M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning History. Before coming back to GCA in 2015, Eric served our country through the United States Army for eight years. His last position in the Army was as Logistical Planner - Brigate 1v1, Officer in Charge stationed at Fort Meade, MD.
Eric is married to Tara and they have three daughters who are students at GCA in 1st, 3rd grade and 6th grade. They recently welcomed a new baby boy to the family in September 2016. This is Mr. Woernle's sixth year at GCA.
Mr. Barnes holds a SC certificate to teach Social Studies. He earned a B.A. in Social Studies and a B.S. in History from Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC. He earned his MDiv from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. In the past, he taught for Christian Learning Centers of Greenville Country as a Bible Release-Time educator serving Woodmont High and Brashier Charter. Before serving on the mission field, he taught at Southside High School in Greenville. He has previously coached high school basketball, volleyball, softball and soccer. He previously taught Ancient History, Government and Economics at GCA. This is Mr. Barnes' fourth year at GCA.
Mrs. Blough helped start Greenville Classical Academy in 2004 and served as a board member and treasurer from 2004 - 2007. She served as Athletic Director from 2008 - July 2014 and Upper School Director starting in July 2010 when the Upper School transitioned to a University-Model School. She has been GCA's Admissions Director since January 2014. She is also the Marketing Director. She received a B.S. in Business Education with a minor in English from Bob Jones University. Nancy and her husband of 30 years, Hudson, live in Greer, SC and are members of Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church. They have three children and their youngest son is a 12th grade student at GCA. She enjoys photography, dogs, traveling and drinking all kinds of tea. This is Mrs. Blough's 15th year at GCA.
Miss MacQuarrie earned a B.S. in Speech Education from Northland International University and an M.A. in Theater Arts from Bob Jones University. She previously taught Fundamentals of Speech at BJU. In addition to being the Volunteer and Events Coordinator, Jessica teaches Drama and
Rhetoric - Public Speaking. This is Miss MacQuarrie's fourth year of teaching at GCA and her third year as Volunteer and Events Coordinator.
Mrs. McDonald has a degree in Christian Education. She has taught in Christian private schools while having some experience in home school co-ops. She and her husband Chris have two children who are students at GCA in 8th grade and 6th grade. They moved from Florida to the Upstate in 2016. This is Mrs. McDonald's second year as Office Manager and her third year at GCA.
Mrs. Spears earned a B.S. in Home Economics and an M.S. in Education both from Georgia Southern College (now University.) In addition to being the Dean of Academics, and Guidance Counselor, Jenny also teaches a Study Skills class. Jenny previously was a K5 teacher, 5th/6th grade teacher, board member and Dean of Faculty at GCA. She has 24 years of teaching experience and two years of academic advising experience as Diploma Consultant at Veritas Press Online Academy in PA. Jenny and her husband Robert are members at Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church. This is Mrs. Spears eighth year at GCA.
Mrs. Godwin earned a B.A. from the University of South Carolina Upstate. She taught kindergarten at Southside Christian School for two years. She and her husband Roger have four grown children and are members at Second Presbyterian Church in downtown Greenville. This is her ninth year teaching K4 at GCA.
Mrs. Lowery earned a B.A. in Guidance and Counseling and a M.S. in Counseling from Bob Jones University. This is her 14th year teaching kindergarten. Debi and her husband Scott have one daughter. Debi is an avid runner and it's not unusual to see her running around the playground during recess with her "Smart Cookies" as she lovingly calls her K5 students. This is her seventh year teaching K5 at GCA.
Mrs. Tilley earned B.S. degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education from Vanderbilt University. Mrs. Tilley and her husband Mark have four children, three of whom are students at GCA in 3rd grade, 9th grade, and 12th grade. Their oldest son graduated from GCA in May. This is her fifth year teaching K5 at GCA.
Mrs. Bales and her family recently moved to the Upstate from Florida. Diane earned a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from Pensacola Christian College. She and her husband Keith have two children both of whom are students at GCA in 10th and 12th grades. This is her ninth year of teaching and her third year of teaching 1st grade at GCA.
Mrs. Lockaby has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Tabernacle Christian College. She has 18 years of previous teaching experience in Christian schools. She and her husband John have three children, the youngest of which is in 5th grade at GCA. This is her fifth year of teaching 2nd Grade at GCA.
Mrs. Mann graduated from Bob Jones University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. She and her husband Johnny have an adult daughter. She taught for several years in Christian and public schools before homeschooling her daughter from K-12th grade. They are members of Second Presbyterian Church in Greenville where Cindy teaches Sunday School and her husband serves as elder. This is her 10th year teaching 3rd grade at GCA.
Mrs. Vidal graduated from Bob Jones University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Prior to coming to teach at GCA, Ruth conducted classes in public, private, and Christian schools teaching art history as part of the BJU Museum & Gallery staff. She is an IEW Accredited Instructor. This is her third year teaching 4th grade at GCA.
Mrs. Tate has a B.A. in Elementary Education and a M. Ed. in Reading Specialist/Special Education. She has been married to Keith for 39 years and they have five adult children and four grandchildren. In addition to homeschooling her children classically, Terry has over 20 years of formal classroom teaching experience. Before she came to GCA, Terry taught 5th grade at Shannon Forest Christian School. Terry loves using Latin in her teaching, and has taught Latin for a total of 12 years. Terry is an IEW Accredited Instuctor. This is her fourth year of teaching 5th grade at GCA.
Miss Matlock has a B.S. and a M.Ed. in Elementary Education from Bob Jones University. She currently holds SC state certification as well as SCACS certification. Kim taught third grade for three years at Hampton Park Christian School. Kim is an IEW Accredited Instructor. She is in her 10th year of teaching at GCA.
Miss Ganyard earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Georgia College & State University, with a dual concentration in violin and piano; as well as a master of music degree from the University of Georgia in violin performance. She has seventeen years of private teaching experience, including three years of teaching at the University of North Georgia. Her experience has also included several years of ensemble instruction at the elementary, high school, and university levels. This is her second year of teaching music at GCA.
Mrs. Barnes received a BSEd from University of Arizona with a major in Mathematics and minor in Physics. She went on to receive an MDiv with concentrations in Missions, Evangelism and Church Planting from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She and her husband Chris have two children, Matthew and Elizabeth both who are students at GCA. They are members at Destiny Church where she teaches elementary Sunday School. She enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, sports, and animals. This is her second year of teaching at GCA.
Mrs. Bump received a B.A. from Bob Jones University with a major in English and a minor in History She also received a Master of Arts in Teaching English. This is her fifth year of teaching at GCA.
Miss Calvino earned a BA in History from Bob Jones University. She attends Mount Calvary Baptist Church where she serves in Sunday School, Bible Club, bilingual Children's Church, plays the cello, and tutors in the summer literacy program. This is her first year of teaching at GCA.
Dr. Carrick earned a B.A in Modern Languages, a Certificate of Education, and a M.A. in Modern Languages from Oxford University, England. He also earned a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Preaching from Westminster Theological Seminary, California. This is his fifth year of teaching Latin at GCA.
Miss Downing earned a B.S. in Math Education from Bob Jones University. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she also plays the piano for Upper School Chapel and is the faculty adviser for the student newspaper. This is her sixth year of teaching at GCA.
Mrs. Downing earned a B.A. from Erskine College majoring in Pure Mathematics and minoring in Secondary Education. Lisa and her husband Mike have six adult daughters and five grandsons. This is her 12th year of teaching at GCA.
Miss MacQuarrie earned a B.S. in Speech Education from Northland International University and an M.A. in Theater Arts from Bob Jones University. She previously taught Fundamentals of Speech at BJU. This is Miss MacQuarrie's fourth year of teaching at GCA.
Mr. Moller has 33 years experience teaching math and science in Christian Schools. He and his wife Anna moved to the Upstate from Charleston in 2015. They are members at Downtown Presbyterian Church. This is Mr. Moller's fourth year of teaching at GCA.
Miss Noonkesser received a B.A. in Humanities with a minor in Spanish and an Advanced TESOL certificate of Completion from Bob Jones University. She attends Covenant Reformed Baptist church where she is one of the church pianists. This is her second year of teaching at GCA.
Mrs. Rench earned a BFA in Studio Art from Bob Jones University. She and her husband Garret are members of Beth Haven Baptist Church in Simpsonville. This is her second year of teaching at GCA.
Mrs. Stanley earned a B.A. from Covenant College in English. Alecia is an IEW Accredited Instructor. She and her husband Chris have three children, all of whom are students at GCA. This is her third year teaching at GCA.
Mrs. Swanson has a B.S. in Family and Consumer Science Education with a Minor in Composite Science, an M.S. in Educational Leadership and an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership all from Bob Jones University. She and her husband Mark have two adult children. In the past Mrs. Swanson taught General Science, Physical Science, Chemistry, and Algebra I Honors at GCA. This is Mrs. Swanson's ninth year of teaching at GCA.
Mr. Timms has a B.A. in Bible from Columbia International University in Columbia, SC and a Master of Divinity from Covenant Theological Seminary. He is Senior Pastor at Fulton Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Greer. In the past, Mr. Timms has taught New Testament Survey, Christian Worldview, Hermeneutics and Apologetics at GCA. Grover and his wife Lisa have three children, the oldest of whom graduated from GCA in 2011 and middle child who graduated from GCA in 2017 and is now attending Patrick Henry College. This is Mr. Timms' eighth year of teaching at GCA.
Mrs. Traylor earned a B.A. in Biology from College of Charleston. This is Mrs. Traylor's fifth year of teaching at GCA
Mrs. Underwood earned a B.A. in Creative Writing from Bob Jones University.
Mrs. Young earned a BA in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in English and Social Studies from USC. She is married to Rob and they have a baby daughter. They attend Greenville Fellowship. She loves to read, listen to music, and spend time with her family. This is her first year teaching at GCA.
Sarah earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Milligan College. She served as the Office Manager and Bookkeeper at GCA for two years. Sarah and her husband Josh have a daughter in 5th grade at GCA. They are members of Grace Church -- Harrison Bridge. This is her third year at GCA.
Audra helps out in the office and also teaches P.E. to 1st - 7th grade students as well as being the Girls Volleyball coach. She and her husband Randy have four children all of whom are students at GCA. They are members of Heritage Bible Church in Greer. This is her second year at GCA.
Michelle earned a BS in Psychology from Appalachian State University. She is married to Charles who is the pastor at Reedy River Presbyterian Church. This is her first year at GCA.
